About the Underwater Training Centre - SA
The Underwater Training Centre-SA (UTCSA) was established in 1996 in Port Lincoln, South Australia. Operating under its former name of The South Australian Underwater Training School (SAUTS) the School was originally established in Port Lincoln with the active support of the South Australian Government.
South Australia is a world leader in the fields of mariculture and aquaculture with, a significant number of such industries existing in this State. Many of these industries rely heavily upon the use of appropriately trained and certified professional (occupational) divers. These industries have an ongoing requirement to recruit new divers therefore, whan you train with UTCSA in South Australia you are already well placed as a graduate of this school to gain rapid employment in that sector.
The school exists to ensure that these industries have ongoing access to appropriate training. The role of the school is therefore, to ensure that all such divers employed in these industries are trained to internationally acceptable, world-class standards.
The school is accredited by the Commonwealth Government of Australia under auspices of the Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS) and, is the only provider of approved occupational diver training in the State of South Australia.
Training for aquaculture and, or, mariculture is only a small part of what we do; we also offer a broad based selection of other diving related courses that are focused towards employment in the offshore oil and gas industry sectors as well as onshore construction diving. We are the only school in Australasia that can offer internationally accepted ADAS accredited training for ROV pilots.
A significant number of the school's students train with a view to entering the construction diving industry and see the ready employment that is offered by SA's aquaculture sector as a first step in that direction. Ninety five percent of all enrolments with UTCSA are for construction diving qualifications and many of our students now work in that field although, many started their careers as working divers by gaining employment in aquaculture. We have extensive links with many of the SA companies and can often assist with that important first job placement.
The school utilises instructional staff with a wide range of experience including police and offshore divers. UTCSA also has a full time registered nurse on-staff as well as a currently serving SA Ambulance officer which ensures that the highest possible level of medical support is available at all times. All UTCSA staff hold the VET training and assessment qualification (TAA or TAE Certificate IV in training and assessment).
UTCSA is able to offer a comprehensive training package to start you on your chosen career path in occupational diving and our graduate employment record is not matched by any other school.
