Firstly, the mission statement of the school with respect to ROV training is an absolute commitment to producing ROV pilots who will, by the completion of training have attained a level of proficiency that offers potential employers a pilot who has skill levels that are not normally achieved in courses of similar duration.

UTCSA is the only Australian training facility that is currently able to provide you with an ROV certification that is issued by Australia’s national diver accreditation scheme - ADAS (www.adas.org.au). This internationally recognised and well respected diver certification system has now added ROV pilot under its certification mantle.

An ADAS certification is a guarantee to employers that the holder of such qualifications have been trained to the required international standard under a fully accredited and rigorously audited course structure. 

In keeping with our mission statement, to achieve high quality training outcomes, the following applies:

1. The maximum number of students on each course of training is limited to 8, (two instructors). The maximum number of students is reduced to six when one instructor is utilised. This policy ensures that each student has ample time to gain the necessary degree of proficiency.
2. The majority of your practical flight training will be under the direct supervision of an instructor.
3. After the initial two days of introductory flight training utilising a single ROV we then move to the operation of two ROVs on a continuous basis. This method utilises teams of three persons (plus instructor/supervisor) and as such duplicates a common team size that is often utilised in offshore ROV operations. Effectively, by running two independent teams simultaneously, we are able to achieve the enhanced flight hours during training that is the major advantage of the UTCSA ROV course.
4. We do not limit the flight time to the normal maximum of 10 hours. In fact we guarantee that, by the end of the course, you will achieve a minimum of 15 flight hours. On most courses an accrued flight time of between 18 and 23 hours is considered achievable.
5. We have dedicated state of the art facilities with permanently established fully equipped control rooms and modern, fully compliant equipment.
6. We are committed to the highest standards of occupational health and safety – our working requirements are similar to that which will be encountered offshore.
7. We have a totally private body of water with our training barge permanently moored only 2 minutes away from our workshop and classroom facilities.
8. Having exclusive access to this private body of water allows us to have in place permanent structures that considerably enhance training outcomes.
9. The deeper water is characterised by low light with poor visibility. This allows, in the final stages of training, for the student to refine the all important instrument only flight training skills.
