There are many persons who would like to become an ROV pilot. Unfortunately, while most persons can be taught to fly an ROV effectively not all have the necessary skills and knowledge to diagnose and fix problems that occur from time to time in complex and sophisticated mechatronic (mechanical and electronic) systems.

It is for this reason that it is normally expected that you possess an appropriate trade or similar qualification with experience. This enhanced knowledge and experience should give you an added advantage in providing the necessary analytical and practical skills to keep the system operational.

In the offshore sector, whenever an ROV is unserviceable it is up to the team to quickly and efficiently troubleshoot the problem and perform any repair work necessary. It is important to get the unit back into service as quickly as possible.

Lost time means lost revenue - you have a duty to your employer to provide a highly professional and efficient service in return for what is a generous salary package!

UTCSA is committed to providing credible ROV pilots to the offshore sectors. To this end we can only take on candidates that we believe have the necessary pre requisite skills to meet industry requirements. Refer to the IMCA entry level requirements.

UTCSA do not offer short (one or two week) ‘top up’ modules in any of the core pre requisite specialities as this type of approach is simply not capable of giving you any useful enhanced skills.

If, after having read this statement, you feel that you have the necessary skills and experience to become an ROV pilot technician we would invite you to apply for a course position by filling out the ROV expression of interest form. (This can be filled out online by clicking on the ROV application tab on the left hand side of this web page.

Once we receive the form we will respond within 7 days. To allow us to further discuss your qualifications and experience, you may be required to participate in a phone interview. Once you are offered a place on a course you will need to secure your position with a payment of a deposit of AU$1000.00. Once the deposit has been received by the school you are guaranteed a place (providing there still vacancies at that time). If there are no vacancies, you will be offered a place on the next available course or your deposit will be refunded.
